The shopping environment, with its ubiquitous duty-free shops and luxury boutiques, is virtually identical in every country. Airports are also often the last haven of safety and linguistic comfort before facing the reality of an unfamiliar country. In the largest and most modern airports, the architecture features vast spaces and giant glass walls that flood the interior with a strange bluish light or create extremely stark contrasts. Sociologically and visually, they are fascinating places.
